Acoustic design and sound system modelling for venues and events.
APH provides various acoustics services which include:
Acoustic modelling of event sites and venues
Acoustic modelling of PA systems
Acoustic design of spaces to optimise building acoustics for live performances and events
Acoustic design of PA systems for optimum performance at a venue or outdoor event
Applications include:
Our expert staff include acousticians who can model your venue, auditorium or arena in the latest professional acoustic modelling software.
Acoustic modelling falls into two main areas:
Modelling for temporary installation (concerts and festivals)
Complex modelling for permanent installation in public spaces or studios
Modelling for One Off Events and Smaller Installs:
Touring systems are able to be delivered to venues with every detail already planned, with acoustic calculations modelled and using advanced techniques in array design and current state of the art focussing techniques such as DASaim FIR focussing to ensure license obligations are met and the primary aim of superb sound in every seat in the house is met.
Ensure that installations will be acoustically designed for optimum sound quality and coverage
See how an install will sound in a simulation and compare configurations/types of sound system at the quotation stage
Ensure that the audio equipment at the event is used effectively and professionally to its full potential.
Highlight issues and manage problems before they occur in the real world, i.e does the show designer need to reconsider the location of a large décor piece?
Enable engineers to fully design the sound for each event before even arriving at the venue.
Reduce ‘figuring out’ time on site and rigging set ups, saving money and time.
Gain confidence that all sound coverage/noise control will be thoroughly designed and managed before your event/in your venue and view a visual representation
Achieving great sound for the whole audience:
APH have advanced filter and aiming technologies at our disposal. The DAS systems use latest generation FIR array aiming. Unlike some manufacturers who give you an “on” or “off” option for these techniques, DAS Systems allow us to adjust many more parameters, from how the system behaves to how it rolls off at distance, or whether we want it to beam steer the sound off a balcony front. If we do want it to beam steer, how strongly do we want it to do so?
Using the DAS technology, our Audio Production Hire technician’s can give a completely level response across an entire audience, meaning every seat in the house hears the same. In addition, sub bass can become directional with increasing cancellation to the rear and/or sides using a variety of array techniques. This is highly advanced technology that DAS Audio have implemented into it speaker systems, which ultimately gives the engineer the ability to steer sound throughout the whole frequency range.
Modelling for Permanent Installation:
APH can advise on acoustic treatments to improve intelligibility, as well as on choices of speakers and their placement. APH are also able to consult on sound insulation to ensure your venue complies with licensing conditions.
We, at APH, provide detailed models of venues or arenas at the design stage, working with clients to ensure a great performing venue is built. Whether it is a concert venue, a municipal hall, a sports stadia or a recording studio, modelling and design are essential to the project.
Only with modelling will a client know how a speaker system will really perform in the space. This is even more essential at the design and specification stage – APH can model Individual speaker lines with superb accuracy in different configurations, Giving clients visual options before committing to the end purchase. Detailed acoustic models can show frequency and transient response at any point in the venue. Changes in acoustic treatment on the walls can be modelled or can show whether or not acoustic treatments will be effective.
Acoustic modelling is in itself an investment. A well developed acoustic design will save money in the future by:
Evaluating the best possible outcome.
Confidence that the choices made are the correct ones.
Installing the correct PA system
For this kind of modelling, our acousticians use a highly specialised software package called AFMG EASEv5, which is the world’s leading acoustic modelling software. Autocad and Revit are used alongside DAS Audio prediction software, EASE Focus.
Extensive modelling software, like AFMG EASE, is used to ensure accuracy and counter boundary reflections – namely the effect of walls and other physical objects on the sound. EASE is able to model the effect of different wall surfaces, different acoustic treatments and different floor coverings.
